Mix-Ability Challenge: Snowy Scenes

This week's Mix-Ability challenge is to create a snowy winter scene - I used the tutorial and same stamp from my card Wednesday to start off this card, after stamping and masking the snowman.

The background was spattered with masking fluid before stamping and painting. The snowman and girl were colored with pencils and then the whole scene was dotted with white acrylic paint for additional snow.

The whole scene took on a vintage look so I decided the photo corners would be an appropriate touch.  I love the bright red against the otherwise muted colors. Hmm!

Impression Obsession DT Challenge: Happy Birthday to You!

The Impression Obsession team's challenge today is to create a birthday card!

Here's one of my CHA samples, with a girly stack of hat boxes! This is from new artist Tara Caldwell.

The image is colored with Polychromos Pencils, and the sentiment can be found in THIS clear set. It's stamped on die cuts found HERE.

Heartfelt Creations DT Alumni Hop

Today my husband and I are celebrating our 13th anniversary, so I wanted to tie that into my post somehow.. I decided to use the material from my bridesmaids' dresses as inspiration. Love the soft yellow and falling rose pattern.  I don't have any of the 'good' pictures overseas with me because we didn't want them to be ruined by humidity, but here's a scan of one of the ones I have here. Love these girls so much. :)

Once again it seems I've chosen a stamp that's retired... but I love this long rose border - it is just so versatile. I stamped it twice across the card, and watercolored using Shinhan Premium Watercolors. To add a little texture, I used some drywall mesh tape to mask in a few areas - loving this look lately. 

The pleated ribbon I used is from Really Reasonable Ribbon - love their products. I left my card blank, and I'll add a sentiment later.

Impression Obsession DT Challenge: Anything Goes

The Impression Obsession team's challenge today is to create a card. Period! Any entry using Impression Obsession stamps is just fine.

Last week there was a challenge on Splitcoaststampers to use the Emboss Resist technique - there are several variations of this technique that all involve coloring over a clear embossed image. I embossed the Darling Dahlia image in with clear powder, then colored the panel using a waterbrush and Ranger reinkers (Shell Pink, Currant, and Lemonade). The sentiment is HERE.

To allow the inks to bleed and blend into each other, I wet the entire panel with a spray bottle, then brushed and dotted the inks, beginning with the lightest color, and adding more color each time.

Impression Obsession - All About the Dies Day 3

We know how crazy you are about these dies - each day one winner will get three dies of their choice!!

I want to share 2 cards made with the leaf dies, and give you a few different ideas for using this set. For my first card I used the largest leaf on white Inchie Plus Squares from Inchie Arts. I ran the die and matteboard squares through my Big Shot using the embossing pads. The die left a debossed image, which I tapped with a Distress ink pad (the debossed lines remained white). I colored the leaves lightly with a Coloursoft pencil then blended the pencil with odorless mineral spirits.

I used dies quite a bit on my second card, but not as a focal point. I colored the Peeking Pumpkin image on coated canvas using Touch Twin Markers (the colors I used are below) and sewed it to my card base.

See the leaves embossed on the card base there? I created that effect by diecutting a sheet of chipboard using the larger leaf dies, then running cardstock and the chipboard through my Big Shot with the embossing plates.I put the silicon pad underneath the cardstock, laid the chipboard over that, then put the accompanying black plate on top, all on Tab 1. Hope that makes sense! Here's what my fancy cereal box embossing plate looks like, and a close-up of the result.

I used a couple of the chipboard leaves to embellish my card - I just tapped them with dye and distress inks so the debossed lines would remain uncolored. I love the detail in these dies!

Impression Obsession DT Challenge: Yellow & Grey

The Impression Obsession team's challenge today is to create a card using yellow and grey. This is such a trendy color combination - I loved using it on this new image released at CHA, called Pamela. The sentiment is from a clear set called Sarah.  I used Touch Twin Markers to color my scene.
