I don't always do this, but this week I'll be focusing on my own designs - this release is so diverse, that I want to make sure I get to showcase each collection and give a few ideas for each. What a fun privilege to be a part of both the artist team and design team!
The grunge and silhouette images were actually released earlier in the year, but they are taking a place at the CHA display booth as well. I wanted to steer my stamp line in a more defined 'mixed media' direction, and I've had so much fun creating backgrounds with the various elements in the collection.
The background on my first card was created with acrylic paints and Versafine inks. I love creating backgrounds in an instinctive and impulsive way - that happened on this project for sure! That's often why I don't document my background-building process - I'm not often sure what direction I'm going in when I start... also I'm running back and forth to rinse off blocks and brushes, or outside to spraypaint through a stencil, etc. One day I'll put together an online class on background techniques and variations.
This 'snakeskin' looking area of the card was created by scraping household caulking through a piece of wire screen with an old gift card. After it was dry, I dripped watered-down acrylic paint over the raised area. Love that bit of texture, and I felt it matched well with the rocker theme. I used that same piece of screen as a mask with spray paints, too.
