Stamping with Jill - Thinking of You

There's a new challenge up at the Touch Twin Markers & More Challenge blog - this time we're using our markers to create projects with a food theme. As an added challenge, we'd like you to use some shadowing techniques on your project. We hope you'll join the fun! I will share my challenge card tomorrow. :)

Jill and I are back with another joint post! I can't wait to see how she used the Thinking of You cling set today... I absolutely adore this thoughtful image, and it was so much fun to color! It reminds me of me........ well, except for the hair bow. :)

I stamped the image in Versafine Toffee, then used watercolor pencils to color (mostly Faber Castell and a few Derwents), blending with a waterbrush. I used a blender pen on the hair and finer details.

My husband said the image and coloring reminded him of a vintage book illustration - I am treasuring that comment in my heart... ♥

I don't always choose my patterned papers before I start coloring, but I did this time - not sure what inspired the combination, but I like it. :) For all the uncut pieces of paper I have, I still always tend to choose from my scraps first. It's sort of a funny mentality, but I love seeing how far I can make things stretch!

To cut the partial circle, I trimmed around the lower part of the image with a craft knife, and positioned the die so that the cutting part was underneath the areas I didn't want cut. Here's what that looked like before I ran it through the Big Shot:

I popped up the teapot and some extra tulips with foam tape, and added some gold highlights to the rims of the teapot and cup using Lumiere acrylic paint. Loving the brilliance of those paints - they're sort of new to me.

I hope you'll take a peek over at Jill's blog to see what she's created with this adorable stamp today!
Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I just had to leave you a comment today. Your husband is so right, the way you've colored this image it truly does look like an illustration from my old Dick and Jane readers. Definitely one of your best ever, and that's saying alot...I always admire your work.

  8. Oh my! This turned out AMAZING! Your card needs to be framed! I would cherish that comment from my husband too since as supportive as he is, his normal response is "I don't get it..." He has the same response for Monet and VanGogh though so I guess I can't have my feelings hurt.
