Impression Obsession DT Challenge: Fun with Flowers

The Impression Obsession team's challenge today is to create a project featuring floral images. I had my pencils out for this week's Pencil Monochrome tutorial over on Splitcoast, and I needed one more sample, so I shared this one in the gallery over there a little early. I tried to stick with minimal pencils, doing the main shading in each area with just 1-2 pencils, but in the end I used a combination of all the pencils to add shading and the background.

I love this image - just the simplicity of a hand-picked rose in a canning jar... it's the little things! I stamped the image in Memento Pear Tart ink so I'd have a light color that would fade into the background once the coloring was done. This green is a nice organic color, even for flowers. Here's a picture in progress - I did my coloring on an Inchie Arts Swatch (2" x 4") which is a little more textured than the Bristol I was using yesterday, but still a great multimedia surface for layering color. Again, I used the Polychromos pencils - I had started off with Prismacolors, but they were a little too soft for the pebbly surface, so I switched to the harder lead. Check my post from yesterday for more info on my sharpener and other favorites for pencil coloring!

It's hard to see, but I finally used those Clarity Stencil Brushes on the sentiment panel, just for a tiny bit of light color. Maybe you can see it below...
