Mix-Ability Challenge: Crayon techniques

Lydia's got us using crayons for this week's Mix-Ability challenge. I borrowed a white one from the kiddos and started a resist background... then got sidetracked with a watercolored card. I have been meaning to send a card of encouragement to one of our SCS members who's in the midst of a very difficult family situation, and I wanted to send it off before we headed to Arizona. I used a new-to-me PSX stamp (ebay besets me too often... sigh...) and sentiments I designed for Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps (Bridge of Hope set). There are several layers of watercolor here, using inks and markers.

When the coloring was done, I laid the panel over an embossing folder, and rubbed the white crayon over the top - it left a subtle waxy pattern, and lightened up the roses just a bit. It's a bit hard to see in the photo, but it's so soft and pretty and vintage up close.

I stamped the hymn lyrics around the flowers and in between layers of watercolor - Memento ink has an interesting quality on watercolor paper when it gets wet that usually frustrates me but worked for me this time. I stamped with a light pink that greyed just a little as it soaked down in - kind of a whispery watermark effect.

I love the impact of those words, and I trust that she'll recognize them and take courage from them too... if you know the hymn too, you'll know what I mean.

  5. Oh so beautiful, I could look at this art work all day! Very impressed at the deep rich hues in your background highlight. And can't see an embossing folder imprint and so worried to give that technique a try! So risky! Best Wishes to your friend,
