Watercolor Wildflowers

Just wanted to share my sample for this week's Mix-Ability challenge over at Splitcoaststampers! Lydia's challenge to us this week is to go a little free-form, and add some inky doodles to our projects. I've been wanting to try this looser watercoloring style just to challenge myself to not be so reliant on outlines and forethought.  Forethought is a dear friend, but sometimes art is very spontaneous... I usually work ahead on projects by a few weeks, but I've been sick for 3 weeks, so I had that 'opportunity for spontaneity' today!

I used Shinhan Premium Watercolors (Permanent Yellow Orange, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Permanent Violet, Greenish Yellow) for the shapes of the flowers, leaves, and greenery, then added some more details to the flowers with Touch Twin Markers (Marigold and Melon Yellow) when the paint was dry. I have a small angled brush that I found locally that works great for the petal and leaf shapes... the technique is similar to some one-stroke painting strokes, which are usually done with acrylic paints. These watercolors are soooooo vibrant and fun to work with, and the Cad. Yellow Deep is a perfect poppy color!

The details were added with a micron pen (Sakura), which works great over water-based and alcohol-based mediums. I finished off the card with a sentiment from my Snowflake Flourish set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.

I hope you'll join us for this week's challenge!
Thanks for stopping by!

Hope the creation of this beautiful card means that you have kicked the illness that has ailed you. Being sick is all it's cracked up to be and I hope it is in your past now. You're card is charming in every category. Thanks for sharing it.
