peaceful journey

That's the 'thing to say' here when someone's going on a trip - "selamat jalan" - may your journey be peaceful. The proper response, then, by the one who's leaving, is "selamat tinggal" - may your stay be peaceful. Cool, huh?

Jacki's beach card here reminded me that I never posted this beach card. One of our best friends left a couple weeks ago to return to his village for a year, and this was the card I made for him. He had a day's journey by boat, a day by car, then a day's hike interior...I can't even imagine! It seems like all the cards I've made have all said "God bless you"... [note to self - keep working on designing that set of stamps so we can have more variety in the future!] "Tuhan" means "Lord" and that is a stamp I designed my self and had pressed by Ready Stamps. So...I do have some stamps but they're all in that same font, some are not quite 'right' after all, and the selection is pretty basic. "Memberkati" means "bless (someone)" and I put that together with my Karen Foster snap stamps.

This is a single stamp from Bad Axe Trading Company - they have some really cool hand-drawn images if you've never checked them out. Lots of scene stamps...and you know I love beach scenes! Coloring is done using my Derwent pencils, blending with a waterbrush (which all need to be replaced when I come home...the small one just bleeds water, the medium one won't feed water, and on the wide one, the bristles pulled out a little ways when I was cleaning it, and it's a little awkward to use now. Not that you needed to know all that!)

I've had a few questions about the scoring around the edges of panels - I did it on this one too. I have a scoring blade on my Fiskars trimmer that I keep right above my cutter blade. The scoring blade is the black one, and it has kind of a rounded nub instead of a blade. When I do the edges, I flip my panel over and usually either line up the panel to the 1/8" line or just slightly past the cutting line at the edge of that little notch in the carrier, and score. Hope that helps!

  1. I've spent some time in Malaysia in the past and the Malay language seems very similar to what they speak in Indonesia - do you happen to know if it's the same? Anyway I love your beach card, it is very peaceful indeed!
