girlfriends

I saw Trish had been playing with her smARTworks "One Smile" set so I thought I'd post my card too. One of the great things about a design team is putting more than one mind to work on using the same images, and coming out with completely different results!

I've had this stamp image in this color in my mind for a while. [Please tell me I'm not the only one that makes cards in my head before they come out on paper...] The blue ink is Aegean Blue, one of the Versamagic chalk inks. This card was pretty basic actually. I used a die-cut card that my SIL sent - I think they are from Joanns. I stamped the main image, then stamped the text stamp down the side (that comes with the One Smile set too) and swiped my Aegean Blue dewdrop pad around the edge, then stippled a little more to blend that edge. I stamped "friends" across the main image, then positioned "always" underneath that with my Stamp-a-ma-jig. ("Always" is what's known as "bonus rubber", one of the smARTworks stamps that isn't in the catalog but is a possibility in the freebies you'll get with your order.)

I filled in the "friends" circles a little bit with white gel ink to cover up the blue, then filled each circle with Crystal Lacquer. Kinda wished afterwards I hadn't done the gel ink, as the CL lifted it a little, and got a little 'ghosty'. But...no one will notice that but me. Next time I'll know better.

The ribbon was fun to figure out - I might have to take pictures of the process...just so I can remember how to do it again! I stuck the blue ribbon loop through from front to back, then tied the polka-dot ribbons to the blue loop, pulled it all to center, pulled all the ribbons up, and then tied another black piece around them all.

I got a happy email this morning - you'll see my name and at least one of my cards in the Fall (Oct.) issue of the Stampers' Sampler!

And happy Independence Day! Merdeka!

  1. Ooh, I really like this! I was thinking of doing a monochromatic card, too. The funny thing is after I posted my card yesterday, I did a search in the SCS gallery for "smARTworks" just to see what came up. I honestly didn't even remember that you had this set, but I was struck by the similarities of the card you had made earlier (with the soft coloring on the image). I wasn't copying you, HONEST!! :)

  2. Nice! Now maybe I'll have to post mine. I paired the main image with a different "friends."

Congratulations on the Sampler! Always fun and exciting to have work published.
