Splitcoast tutorial - Faux Copper Patina

This week's tutorial over at Splitcoast is a Faux Copper Patina finish - this is a great one for any background, and would be pretty on wood as well!

I finished processing the video and then went to do my background and promptly forgot the first step (a stenciled design), so be sure to check the tutorial to see what that looks like! I used clear embossing powder over my panel (it's the same cardstock as the card base), and then did a little ink smooshing with brown dye ink. I wanted more dark copper than patina, so I added a layer of acrylic paint for a darker brown with sparkle. I love this paint, so I'll share a link - it's this one. It's a multi-surface paint, so it's got a great coverage, and a ton of great metallic sparkle. Over the dry paint I did a little direct-to-paper swiping with Versafine Clair ink to add some streaks and grab some of the texture of the embossing powder.

My snail panel is colored with Copic markers , and I added a little slime trail behind the snail just for fun. The snail set is one of my clear sets over at Impression Obsession - there are 3 snails traveling in different directions, and I love them! Some cute mix/match words for different sentiments too. Those guys went so nicely with my mushroom stamps - when I get my digital store up I'll bundle them together, I think.

  1. I LOVE your card, Dina! That faux copper patina background is GORGEOUS! I LOVE your snail too & I LOVE how you've got more than one in the set, going in different directions! ;) I do like getting your information here on your blog Dina, but it might be easier for some to find information they are looking for in a newsletter form. I can imagine it will be a job to do though, with all the things you do! Sounds like you MIGHT like to give it a try & see how things go. I think it would be great to try it out! ;)
