Splitcoast Tutorial: Brush Stroke Foiling

This week's tutorial over on Splitcoast is Brush Stroke Foiling - our author gives 2 different ways to get this modern effect, with or without a laminator!

A friend of mine was selling some of her stamping supplies, so I offered to relieve her of all the stencils she had left - this gnome stencil from Simon Says Stamp was included, and I squealed a little when he arrived! The stencil has several options for hats and beards, as well as some texture spots for adding a pattern to his little outfit. I inked the hat and body first, then did the brushed foiling on the hat with a scrap of rainbow foil from Spellbinders. I used the Tacky When Dry medium from The Crafter's Workshop, which works with heat or toner reactive foils. The beard is also stenciled, using modeling paste that I textured with a palette knife. Sentiment was a freebie from Spellbinders that came with a gnome-themed die club kit.

It's rare that I make a card and think - this needs glitter! But today I did that - I brushed a swoosh of ink, dotted some glaze and glittered that, then sprinkled sticky embossing powder and more glitter and heated that until it bonded.

Love the texture in that beard!

Today is International Dog Day - here are some favorite portraits to celebrate!

Have a great week - the kids are back in school and I'm enjoying the quiet!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. You are SO incredibly talented. I want to be YOU when I grow up. However, at 68 years old I think my opportunity has passed! ;-)

  3. This is adorable! You made the right call on the glitter. What did you use on the beard. I missed it if you said.
