Splitcoast Tutorial: Resourceful Art Journaling

Our tutorial this week over on Splitcoast is a fun and sweet art journaling adventure - our author uses lots of common household items on her page, and I'm hoping it will take the 'scary' factor away for people who have been wanting to try art journaling but don't know where to start. There's no real formula for making a page, but this is a nice jumping point for a beginner. I followed some of Helen's steps for my page, which I'll turn into cards to be shared later.

I have some old pattern pieces in my filing cabinet, and I thought this one would be a great base for a sewing theme. I gave my sketch book page a coat of gel medium before and after adding the tissue.

The wrinkles in the page are great for adding texture - here I've got a thin layer of white acrylic paint on my finger - another great tool for just adding a 'touch' of paint here and there.

I spritzed a little brown dye spray (ColorBox Spritzers) and misted with water to let it move a little. The stenciling on this page is my favorite - I have some gold texture paste that is getting a little thick, but it's sooo pretty through this new BoHo Glam stencil from A Colorful Life Designs...

The other stencil I used is a new one as well, and has a lot of possibilities - remember you can always use code DinaFan10 at ACLD to get 10% off your order! I used IO Hybrid ink for the turquoise stenciling - I love that it dries over all these other mediums.

Here's a look at the full page - this is an 8x10 sheet, which cuts nicely into 3 card bases. I'll share those Monday, since they fit in nicely with another challenge - be sure to check back!

Thanks for stopping by!
