Impression Obsession - Old is New

With such a huge collection of wonderful stamps from so many artists, sometimes the older stamps in the Impression Obsession catalog find their way out of the spotlight. We don't want them to be forgotten, so from now on you'll be seeing our team feature them regularly. We hope you're inspired!

This stamp caught my eye when I was searching the site for another stamp - I didn't remember ever seeing it before! You'd think having been a customer forever I would have seen all the things. And you can bet that I didn't have a beluga stamp in my collection! So many cool things to be found if you look.

Beluga Whales

This card was a fun one because of its many layers. I started with a quarter sheet of Yupo paper, and stamped the whales in Stazon ink. When that was dry I masked them off, and laid my stencil down. I used lots of tape to keep it in place, because those long lines like to shift  - I looove this stencil though! I brushed out from the masked whales using IO Hybrid ink (Navy). These inks are amazing, and I love that I could brush ink directly onto the Yupo and then continue working on top of it with no bleeding. After removing the masks I used watercolor and colored pencils to fill in the scene.

For a final step, I diluted some white acrylic paint and splattered it over the panel. Because I used Yupo, I was able to wipe excess splatters off of the whales using a cotton swab. Such a great surface to work on.
