Whimsy 31 Nights of Halloween and a giveaway!
I'll be sharing some guest posts with Whimsy Stamps this month, and I'm honored to also be hosting a giveaway for their 31 Nights of Halloween celebration! Keep reading to find out how you can win a $15 gift certificate!
I wouldn't normally be attracted to a set called Attempted Murder, but look at it - there are so many possibilities! (A group of crows is actually called a murder, so with just 2 of them... it's a good attempt! Love the humor behind this set, too.)
The individual elements can create a beautiful autumn scene, or a variety of spooky Halloween vignettes. I decided to go for a stormy fall scene, and filled in the images to create silhouettes. You can follow my process below!
I started off with a panel of watercolor paper, swiped with Distress Oxide inks. I misted with water, and sprinkled some salt for texture, then laid in a die cut circle of Yupo paper to create an imprint.
When the panel was dry, I brushed a few clouds lightly into the background, using this scalloped circle as a template.
I stamped the images over the panel using my MISTI, then colored in the outlines with a Copic marker.
Over the marker, I deepened some shadows and added highlights with colored pencils.
When I was done stamping, I added a few darker clouds and sponged the edges to bring more focus to the center of the panel. I really love the results! For a final step I added a few small birds from the Falling Leaves clear set - they were the perfect size to add some perspective and depth.
I hope that inspired you.... now for the fun stuff!
