Art Print: Moments

I'm on my way to my mom's today, and tomorrow we'll celebrate my Granny's life - you can read a little about her HERE... she was an amazing woman and I'm so humbled and grateful to be hers and to have inherited some of her qualities. She touched so many lives with her faith, her music and teaching, her creativity, and her generosity.

When I was up for a visit in March, I visited with Granny for the last time along with my Mom, and while they sat together I took a couple of pictures with my phone... I used one as the reference for this painting. It was a sweet and tender moment that I'll never forget.

Just a few pictures of the painting process... it's always fun to see things come together as each layer of color is added in. If you enjoy watercoloring this way, a tip - I find it really helpful to open the reference photo in my photo editor and use the "Decrease Color Depth" function - this gives kind of a topographical color map and really helps with visualizing shading and layers. The sample below shows 16 color levels.

More layers of color, and the details of Mom's skirt - Granny loved making quilts, so I'm glad that motif is in there. In this layer you can also see the stamped sheet music - it's not as visible in the final painting, but I wanted to be sure it was in there. :)

One of the final pictures - I think I went one shade darker after this.

As usual, prints will be available this week for preorder, if you'd like to share the print with a caregiver, a hospice worker or someone who loves someone in their later years of life. Prints will be 5"x7" and will be $12 + shipping.... I'll have to time the order around our move (more about that soon!), but I'm open for preorders now. Other prints are in stock, and all can be ordered HERE.

Have a great week! I'll check in when I can!
Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Dina, my deepest sympathies at the loss of your Grandmother. You are very blessed to know her indeed. Many never have that opportunity or sense of family bonding that you have; you are so blessed! I think your painting in honor of your grandmother is very touching. It is beautiful! I love the smaller images of things she liked....it just makes your painting very special. Blessings!!!
