Splitcoast Tutorial: Double Gate Fold Card

This week's tutorial is a fun fold card, made with a few score lines and diagonal cuts - it's called the Double Gate Fold, and Dawn Olchefske is our guest author. I love her sweet voice and engaging style.

I have a little pile of 'had to have' stamps on my desk, and it just felt like time to use this beauty from Unity Stamp Co. - I love everything about this image, from the chunky sweater to the coffee and the work hair. Just gorgeous.

The card fold is essentially a double Z, but the angled cuts really add an elegant touch. Dawn keeps her cut pieces parallel with the cut lines, but I switched mine, which created a cool diamond feature at the center. I used a Post-It note to make a template for the shape for my main panel, just tracing the edge with my thumbnail:

Inside, I stamped one of the sentiments from the set, backed with one of my coffee silhouette stamps. The tool line across the top just added balance. Done!

I'll be making more of these for Hope You Can Cling To - I'm working on my challenge samples now!
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Oh, how lovely! Fancy fold, indeed - this has fancy written all over it. And the sentiment just pairs perfectly with this image. Spot on!

  5. I love Unity Stamps and you certainly used this one perfectly. Have a question...did you ADD the diamond to the card or figure out how to cut the card with the shape left onto it. Just don't quite understand how you did this and if I don't ask I'll never know. Thanks Dina.

    1. Hi Linda! If you click over to the tutorial, in step 5-6 she cuts the top corners off the card and glues them as layers in the bottom corners. Instead of switching them to opposite sides like she did, I just flipped them straight down. That left the diamond as a negative shape formed by the 2 triangles. Hope that makes sense.
