Pencil Blending Tutorial
I've been wanting to put together a video on pencil blending methods for a while - I finally finished it up last weekend. These are the methods that I cover in the video:
Here's the video! Please let me know what you think, and if you have questions please post them on the video or post them here. I wish I had a video of me talking with my hands and pointing at my computer screen when I was doing the audio - I'm sure that would be amusing!
If you're interested in my video on pencil shading, you can find it HERE. The written tutorial can be found on Splitcoaststampers.
The pencils I used in both videos are Polychromos Pencils. They are oil-based pencils - a little drier than Prismacolors (not waxy), and they don't have the breakage issues either. I looooooove mine and highly recommend them. A teeny sweet reminder, too, that if you order from Dick Blick, please click through to them via the button in my left sidebar if you'd like to swing a little percentage of your purchase my way. That gives me a little extra pencil money once in a while! Thank youuuu!!
Thanks. Clear and easy to follow and understand.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! You spoke clearly and explained perfectly
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Dina!! I've struggled with pencils, stumps, blending mediums and although I enjoy it very much, it's a time-consuming event in trial and error. This was so helpful!! I'm looking forward to pulling out my pencils very soon!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Audrey
Thanks for this fabulous tutorial! I have pencils and stumps but never knew much about using them. This is so helpful!
ReplyDeleteDina, that was very helpful and informative. Thank you so much!! Fantastic job.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dina! This was very helpful. You are a blending SME (Subject Matter Expert) and thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTake care and STAY POSITIVE!
Dina, Quick question...what papers/card stock do you find get the best results with pencils? Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe. Your video is so easy to follow. It gives me hope that even I might be able to get acceptable results from pencils one day. You're amazing.
ReplyDeleteTHank you for the video, and the info on the penciles used...
ReplyDeleteFantastic video! I will have to try the Faber pencils! Love the image you used too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great video. I have never seen 'just pencil' blending before. All of your tips were very useful. When I color with pencils I use baby oil. I have a lot of practicing ahead of me to get something a fraction as nice as yours.
ReplyDeleteYour coloring is awesome, thanks for creating a video tutorial. Very helpful.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust watched your tutorial. Beautiful job of coloring. Wish I could do it like you do. Do you have the shading rules some place that could be copies. Would be very useful. Thanks again. Edna
ReplyDeleteHi Dina, just saw this video and it's great! I get always a lot of questions about my colouring and I will certainly promote your video on my blog and refer them to your blog! Thanks for this great tutorial!
ReplyDeletewarm greet Miranda
I found just the info I was looking for in a Google search. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSo so helpful!
ReplyDeletewhat kind of paper did you use in the video? thx
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you for watching! That is an older video - I don't remember exactly - it may have been just regular Georgia Pacific cardstock. For my colored pencil work now, I use Crescent white core matboard. I also recommend Strathmore XL Bristol - one side of the paper is rough and one side is smooth, so if you're unsure which you prefer you've got both there to try. I hope that helps!
DeleteThank you! I learned more it your short video than the 1,000’s before I found yours.!!
