workshop...

Sorry I didn't take any pictures at the youth camp workshop today... It was interesting - this was the first time they've done this camp, and they ended up having waaaaaaay more campers than they expected - almost 500 by the 3rd day and still more wanting to sign up. This was nothing like any youth camp I've ever been to, except for it being in a more remote place...this was homemade shelters in a dusty field, with a few makeshift kitchens and outhouses...made me miss the mountain/lake camps I've attended and worked at...sigh...

Today for the workshops, mine was the only one that was like a handicraft or 'practical' skill - the rest were all things having to do with helping in the church (preparing a simple sermon, leading worship, teaching Sunday school, discipleship, running sound equipment...) so although the director had told me they would limit the class to 20 students, there were 52 that signed up! Next time hopefully they'll have more creative 'general' options... I had brought a few extra kits, but not that many - so we ended up with 28 students, 1 table and 2 benches, and everyone in a narrow dirt-floor tent, where not quite half of the students could see me. Interesting! Thankfully I had a friend that had made the books with me before, who was able to help on the other side of the tent... All in all, though, everyone ended up with an envelope book, so regardless of the process, I'd say it was a success.
