Faux Batik

Thought I'd try making a background with a repeated image, since that challenge theme's cards are due by tonight! All stamps shown are from Impression Obsession. I started with white glossy cardstock and stamped 2 of the flourishes from Impression Obsession's Solid Florals set with Versamark ink until the background was filled. After this dried, I brayered Butterscotch ink over the top, intentionally leaving lines from the edge of my brayer for a more distressed look. TIP - the longer you brayer, the brighter the contrast will be against your resist images. I stamped more flourishes in Ginger ink, then brayered with ginger over the top, and sponged darker browns around the edges. The darker batik strip was from the same piece, just cut off and brayered with darker brown. Probably doesn't show well, but you can still see the resist images if you look close. Those are paper beads on the jute - Here's a link to a simple tutorial with pictures. My favorite piece is the button - it's made from a coconut shell! Little local treat.

If you were planning to enter the Day 2 challenge to win Impression Obsession stamps, be sure to leave a link by midnight tonight (Jan.9) at the original post sharing a card where you used an image more than once!

Also - wanted to share that after my 3 month guest position on the I.O. team, I've been asked to stay on as a senior design team member! Stay tuned for some soon-to-be released stamps from a new artist (not me...but some of you may see my cards in the I.O. booth at CHA......!).

  2. Dini, this is the most beautiful example of faux batik I have ever seen. Wow. I am really inspired. Thanks for sharing how it was done!

A friend just brought us a coconut, and my daughter plans to sand the shell for pendants; maybe I'll have her make me some embellishments - great idea!
