Working with Jesus

A few weeks ago, Sue from Heart and Soul sent me this brand new image to work with...I wanted to say "play with" because it was a stamp...but then I imagined my mom calling me and asking what I was doing, "Oh, just playing with Jesus," I'd say.......so.........no. So I was WORKING with Jesus. That sounds better. HA!

I thought I'd go for 3 unique looks - I think I accomplished that! It was an interesting image to work with, because of the shadows and boldness of the image. My first piece started off as a resist, but I have such a hard time with resist pieces not sliding, and it did a bit. I stamped with Versamark ink on Glossy paper, then sponged and stippled with chalk inks until I got the effect I wanted. After the chalk ink dries, you can buff off the chalk part - that is a neat effect. I then stamped the Jesus image over the resist image, but "off" slightly. You probably can't see it, but I added a tiny dot of white acrylic paint to each eye too. The rest is just layered scraps. The left panel is sponged and then overstamped with the other half of the saying (Great Things He Has Done!) but you can't really see that either, since most of the words got covered up.

Card 2! This one goes in the mail today - I love the reminder that Jesus is "always" - faithful, loving, forgiving, and especially always with us. The word stamp is "bonus rubber" from smARTworks - Susan always tucks in some little goodies with your order! I wanted to try something a little lighter and also monochromatic. I didn't have paper to match the stamped image, so I used the inkpad and colored some white cardstock with it myself. Perfect! Nothing else very out of the ordinary on this card.

Card 3 - I laugh because it's not really what I expected, but now I can't remember what look I was really going for. Anyway, not sure that it was such a dramatic look...The cross hatch lines around the image are just from Watercolor pencils (I use Derwent brand) directly used on wet watercolor paper. It's a bit 70's-ish in real life. IRL too, the image is embossed and stands out from the card a little bit - I did that by tracing around the image with a stylus from the front so I had an outline on the back, then laying the image down on a piece of thick cardboard, and burnishing inside the outline from the backside.

I'm not sure if the image is in the online catalog yet, but if you need Jesus, give Sue a holler and tell her I sent you - she'll know what you're talking about.

Have a great weekend!
