time for tea!

Every two weeks the design team members for smARTworks take turns challenging each other in a "Tea Party" project challenge - it could be a sketch, color combination, template, or whatever the hostess chooses. It's my turn again to host, and I chose to challenge my fellow smART cookies to make a matchbook card. The basic directions are to cut a sheet of cardstock lengthwise, and score up 1 inch from the end. Punch a couple of holes to thread ribbon, or attach brads or eyelets, or whatever you want...the important thing is that you have a stationary flap that you can tuck the long end under so your card has a matchbook closure.

We ate lunch yesterday at this restaurant, the Earl of Sandwich. YUM! Great little place at Downtown Disney. Sitting outside I was immediately inspired by the diamond motif, and eventually remembered that I had this diamond background stamp from smARTworks that I've never used. Done. The actual image has 4 diamonds, 2 on top of the other, but I taped off the bottom diamonds and stamped the top ones twice, lining up and positioning them with my Stamp-a-ma-jig. I masked each diamond with post-it notes and stamped over, with a different image in each area.

I laced the ribbon up and down through 6 holes, then went back the other direction down and up. The ribbon is white...I stamped it but you couldn't tell so I ended up just rubbing an inkpad on it to dye it. It's the same ink I used on the main panel but it still doesn't quite match in real life.

The mini rhinestones are from the Dollar Tree - they are cell phone bling, but only $1.00 for hundreds of the little things, and there were several different sets (yep, you know - I got one of each!).

Be sure to check out what the rest of the team created as they post throughout the day:
If you decide to try the layout too - link it here! I'd love to see what you come up with!

  3. Ooh, I like the idea of doing it on the left side. The masked harlequin is very cool, too!

  4. Awesome card! Love the layout and colors! The ribbon is great...I like how you changed the color of it and how you "laced" it through your card.
