Faux Bacon Embellishment

I had a request from a SCS member for instructions for making a mailable card embellishment that looked like a tasty piece of bacon.

I can't even tell you how much that appealed to my sense of humor, in addition to my love for creating, and for a good challenge.

Here's what I came up with:

The sentiment I used is from Penny Black.

All you need are satin ribbon, alcohol markers, rubbing alcohol, and a heat gun! After heating, the ribbon will hold its shape, and won't crush in the mail.

Here's a video tutorial:

Send me a link if you try this out - I'd love to see!
Thanks for stopping by!

  2. The bacon is amazing, but the perfect sentiment and the 'platter' matting is equally amazing. This is one fun card!

  9. How realistic looking! I had to laugh since yesterday was a big bacon festival in Des Moines. Hundreds of different food items featuring bacon from ice cream to donuts to Lord knows what. No I didn't attend but the tickets sold out in less than an hour for this festival making it one hot commodity! You could have sold a snoot full of these cards!

  13. OH!!! I am lacking some of the necessary ingredients, but I would love to make that. I was traveling and visited a chocolate shop last month. I purchased chocolate covered bacon! My sister is getting it for her birthday as we have a bacon thing. Thanks for sharing this -- it really looks good enough to eat. nise
