New tutorial on the Flourishes blog!

Stencils are a popular element to use in mixed media. They're a very simple tool, but they can be expensive. Today over on the Flourishes blog I'll show you how I used the simple supplies below to create a homemade stencil. There's a video there that will show you several ways to use stencils, too.

Hope you'll join me!!

Here's one of the cards I made in the video, using the stencil with watercolors to add some fun to my background. I designed the sentiments for this set, called Old Tea Rose. The panel is watercolored with Shinhan Premium Watercolors.

Hope you have a great week! I have been holding down the fort while my husband is away on a surprise trip to the States. One more week... one more week... but a very FULL week with a long list of things to do! [Hopefully] I'll be finishing up the videos and instruction for a colored pencil course I'm writing, finalizing my outline for a few teaching opportunities here on campus this week, getting my class syllabus ready for another health class which starts Sept. 4th, getting the info I need to distribute worm medicine to all the kids on campus, and imagine, my kids want to learn and even EAT this week!!?

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Dina - love your tutorial on how to create your own stencils, different ways to use them, and this incredible card with the 'lifelike' rose popping off the corner! You sure wear a lot of hats - enjoy? passing out deworming meds to the kids :/

Beautiful card... love the sentiment and the background you've created with your stencil. Your water-colouring is gorgeous. Have a great week.

  3. This is such a great idea, you could also use left over packaging from products, like the kind that comes with dies. The card by the way is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I left you a comment on the flourishes blog too but wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the video. Love your ideas to watercolor through the stencil and layer your stencils. I will have to make some of my own stencils too. Beautiful, beautiful cards too. :) Thanks for sharing.
