Inchie Arts with Inks

I had this Penny Black Christmas set (Mimi's Christmas) out on my desk for another project, so I thought I'd use one of these sweet Mimi images... I won this set in a prize package from Penny Black - it's not my normal style of image, but I loved fitting it into a scene, coloring the image, and playing with the colors and shadows to give it some realistic lighting.

My first step after stamping the image was to add a few extra snowflakes by inking just certain areas of the stamp. I then filled them all in with a clear glaze pen. When the glaze dried, it resisted the coloring, which gave just the effect I wanted... and I could paint over the spots instead of having to carefully paint around them.

I used dye reinkers to color the image, on a 3-inch Art Square from Inchie Arts. I love the deep saturation of the colors, especially that deep blue (Ranger Adirondack Denim ink). The matboard surface takes the medium so well, even with several layers of color where I added shadows with dark grey and brown inks.

I added a little Flower Soft  behind the sled to give some motion to her midnight ride! Love the dimension that little touch adds.

Is it too early for Christmas cards? Hee!
