back again.....!

I must say....it's a nice hotel, but with 4 small children (6 and under) in one room...I think I feel more relaxed at home, even if I have to cook. At least there's more room and more doors that can close between me and the world. :) DH took one of the kids to the pool twice, but I stayed in the room the whole time - me and 3 kids, and Aunt Flo, who arrived about the same we got the hotel. (You know what I'm talkin' about, girls!) I will give three cheers for the hot shower. We have a sort of dribbly shower, no curtain, and no water heater, though our water does usually run warm. There's no door to our master bathroom either...so imagine the bliss of a hot shower behind a locked door! :) (Actually, to put it in even better perspective, we have almost daily power outages here, several hours each time, and when the power goes out, so does our water - the power had gone off Saturday evening so we had been without running water from Saturday evening until the time we left the house Monday morning - I actually filled a bucket with rain water to rinse my dishes...!)

Here's a card I made before we left the house - this card uses one of smARTworks' new sets, "One Life." The set includes the saying and the branch stamp. This saying has always been really meaningful to me, though we usually change the one line to say "Only what's done IN Christ will last." It's so easy in ministry to use our own strength to do things FOR Christ instead of resting IN Him and allowing HIM to do the work through us.

Card details - this was actually "take 2" for the layers of this card. I had put a card together before this, and hated it, not sure why - so I took it apart and tried again with a more subtle background and less color contrast. Much better. The right panel uses the "2-step faux watercolor" techniques I explained in a previous post - I used Versamagic Spanish Olive ink mixed with a little gold pigment ink (someone sent me a gold inkspot - I'm not sure who the manufacturer is). The stripe paper is a download from http://www.oscraps.com/. Everything else is pretty self-explanatory - the corner punch is from EK Success. I distressed the edges on the saying panel and it is popped slightly with some thin foam. Trish sent me that cool ribbon - thanks girl!

I got some coloring done at the hotel, so hopefully some more cards will be able to come together pretty quickly. Until then...thanks for checking on me!

  1. Had to laugh at the thought of the hot shower behind closed doors! But I know it's true! Glad you got to experience it if only for a little while. But with all those kids in the hotel room - oh my goodness! I'll bet you're glad to be back home, even if there's no hot shower! Love the sentiment on the card & you're right - it should read what's done in Christ instead of "for". Blessings on your day!!!

  2. Great card, and I love your spin on the saying. So easy to burn ourselves out when we're doing things FOR God, but in our own strength. Thanks for the reminder.

  3. Where were you before I sent this off to the engraver??? Never thought of it "in" vs. "for," but sure wish I had... This was actually the little poem on a glow-in-the dark plaque hanging on the wall of my room when I was a child.
