Do you love the giraffe?

The giraffe still needs a name...and Susan from smARTworks has a little sumpin' going on to support the giraffe's cause on her blog, 'In the Works'. Check it out - name the giraffe - it can be a boy name or a girl name, apparently, because my 6YO tells me that if I stamp it in black it's a boy, and if I stamp it in brown it's a girl! ANYWAY.......head on over to In The Works for more info - suggest a name for the giraffe, and you could win a free giraffe set!! Niiiiiice! The set includes the giraffe, 2 sayings, and the leaf stamp seen in this card.

Susan and I had another mind meld today because.....the giraffe is back again! Sometimes during my homeschool time if there's a subject my son is able to do on his own, I'll bring out some coloring to do while I wait for him to finish up. So Friday I stamped 2 giraffes - one black and one brown. So here's the "boy one". :)

Better start with the background paper on this one. It was a 2 step faux watercolor process. For the first 'layer' I misted the paper with water and stamped the leaf with Versamagic chalk ink. The colors bled a lot, which looked really cool. After it had dried I inked the stamp with the same ink, then misted the stamp with water before putting it to the paper. So - 2 ways of doing faux watercolor. The secone way gives a little clearer image - I guess it more bleeds within the image rather than bleeding out onto the paper, if that makes any sense.

The giraffe (Jerry? Jehosaphat?) was stamped in Stazon black and colored with Prismacolor pencils/OMS. I shaped him a little with my fingernail before mounting him on foam tape. The clouds behind him are scalloped punch ones (tutorial here) - actually that may be a chunk out of the piece I was making in the tutorial. I cut the inner circle with my Coluzzle. The saying panel is stamped in Stazon, scored from the backside, and mounted on foam tape. Copper brads finish off the piece.

Have a great weekend!
