Impression Obsession - September Favorites

The IO Team is back today to share a favorite card from this month's release, so here's mine! Head over to the Impression Obsession Blog for all the links so you don't miss anything.

I liked this card because I was able to use some of the secondary images from this month's red rubber kit. The leaves are not a separate stamp, but I was able to ink them individually with a marker. I love the way the border stamp makes them look like they're floating on the breeze.

My background panel was done for a MIX-ability challenge but I didn't end up using it - the challenge was to watercolor a panel and then sprinkle something over it that would absorb some of the paint - I used pencil shavings on this one. Below the leaf panel I added a couple of torn borders from the Fall Floral paper pack - those were lightly sanded before they were adhered.

Impression Obsession product focus - Stencils

Today the Impression Obsession team is taking some time to feature one of our newest product lines - stencils! I worked so hard this year to learn how to design these, and I'm so very proud to be able to share them, and to see them being used! I hope you get a lot of ideas and inspiration today! I'll just be over here beaming.

There are some standalone stencils and some layered sets  - I've got a layered set to show off today. This is a set of 3 stencils that stack (I took notes on how these came out and the layered sets will be even better next time!) to create a realistic, shaded image. This set is really large - the stencils are 5x7, and my card below is 5x7 so you can see that leaf in all its glory. You can use it on larger projects, or span it over 2 A2 card fronts to save time.

For this card I used watercolor paper, and instead of dry-brushing ink, I misted my watercolor palette and brushed paint across the openings of the stencils. For the 3rd layer, I pulled out one of my Colorbox mists so I could get the effect of those age spots leaves get as they dry. Once the paint was dry, I added a drop shadow with a Copic marker, and a few more splatters around the edge.

NOTE: these stencils are very forgiving with sprays and a wet watercolor brush, but if you are dry brushing ink, you'll want to use Pixie Spray or something similar to keep your stencil well in place.

Watercolor paper has layers as well, so I tore and shredded the edge with my fingernail, and added a little brushed ink there too.

The sentiment here is from my fall Eeyore set - I have used this stamp a lot! Perfect fit on those new stitched tag dies too.

Impression Obsession - more September products

We've got more projects to share from Impression Obsession's newest release! Again, I'm so excited to be able to share these new IO products with you!
This is another stencil that I designed for IO - the full design has 3 rows of these trees but I blocked off just one for my design here. I used masking tape to isolate the trees, covering up the little star tips with little bits of washi tape. The trees are inked with Distress Oxide inks, then splattered with some dilute gold pigment ink. When that dried I removed the tape and used sharp colored pencils to color the stars and tree pots.
I made sure my trees would match the striped paper from the new paper pad - this is basically a swatch sheet of the colors in the collection! I had this metal eyelet bar in my stash from 100 years ago, and it was a perfect fit there, so I pulled out the old tools and added it on.

One more project using the paper pad - I made these earrings using the snowflake paper in the collection! The glass pieces are 12mm across, and these snowflakes were a perfect fit. Another idea for upcoming craft shows! I have a tutorial on SCS here.

Impression Obsession new products for September

It's time for a new monthly release from Impression Obsession, and I'm excited to have a few items in this batch! Haven't seen the new products? They're all HERE - go take a peek! I'll wait.

I'm kicking off today with my favorite stencil in the release - this one has some separate elements (a pine branch, several ornaments, the hanger, string, and bow) that can be used individually or pieced together to make a sweet scene. The branch is pretty by itself or you can layer it in varying shades and at different angles to create some depth. Separating out the ornament parts lets you ink them in different colors - I cover up the openings around the image I want to ink using wide masking tape. A note too - this branch has also been used as seaweed, so remember that when you work on your summer and ocean cards!

Here's a peek at that layering, and also at one of the designs in the new winter paper pack - this one is full of snowflakes, hats and mittens. It's really cute!

The ornament designs have a word that runs across them - I was brushing a little bit aggressively... I got my products late again, so in my haste to create for you my word here blurred, but I kind of like the effect. I used colored pencils to fill in the ornament hanger and string. There's a bow that can be stenciled at the join as well.

Impression Obsession - more September kit projects

I hope you're enjoying the projects with the new kit! I'll be adding a couple more Pooh themed clear sets to my spring release, and then we'll have to revisit the gang again when Tigger comes into the public domain in 2024!

Here is another project for today - This Piglet image is a really nice size, and this is one that required a little creative 'surgery' to design, adapting the original imagery to be able to hold something. Not sure if you noticed, but the leaves in the kit match the leaves in the Cover-a-Card stamp I used, and also the leaves in my fall paper pack, so those are great to have and use together!

(remember you can still get the August kit this month!)

You'll want to see what my friends have created with the set, and leave comments along the way, because two lucky commenters will receive an Impression Obsession Grab Bag! The more you comment through our Release Celebration, the more chances to win! All comments for each of the event days will be open until Tuesday September 6th at 8pm CT and all winners will be announced on Wednesday September 7th on the Impression Obsession Blog.

Note: The original Winnie the Pooh book by A.A. Milne came into the public domain in January 2022. All the images in my Pooh sets use original line art by E.H. Shepard with portions replaced with my own art. I do my level best to preserve recognizable imagery rather than redrawing my own version out of respect for the artist and characters. Disney does not own rights to the book illustrations, and they have no say over the modifications and derivative workings many stamp companies are producing now. Thank you for being concerned, if you were!

Impression Obsession September Red Rubber Kit

It's time to unveil a new red rubber kit from Impression Obsession! I got to design the set this month, so join me in letting out a little squeal! Eep! Now go get one!

The anchor image of the kit is this classic illustration from Winnie the Pooh, about a Blustery Day. I've added a few blowing leaves of my own to Dinafy the scene. 😉 You might also be happy to know that this image will fit your A2 card in either orientation!

I used Karin markers to lay down some solid colors on Pooh and Piglet, then shaded with colored pencils and added in some grassy strokes. After they were colored, I masked them off with contact paper, brushed in some ink, and stamped the dashed background stamp... this is a fun one for wind, bees, stitch lines, and so much more!
