Mix-Ability challenge - Quads

Lydia  is hosting this week's Mix-Ability challenge over at Splitcoast, and in true mixed media fashion the challenge is to use 4 different mediums on our projects. Here's my card:

I pulled some of my overseas craft stash out of our storage unit to sort through and purge, so you can imagine the turmoil that is Narnia this week, but in reorganizing I found this sheet of Peel-Off stickers from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Flowers in Frames 3
I hadn't used any of them, so I started my project by sticking one onto a piece of watercolor paper. The stickers are raised outlines, and they create great barriers for coloring, especially with wet mediums. For the blue background areas I wet each section then added a little Hydrus liquid watercolor and moved it around for varied color.

The flowers and leaves were colored using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens and Akashiya Sai markers, just blending the colors from dark to light while the ink was wet. I'm working on a video and comparison post, so be looking for that. There is a difference in the brush size, if that matters to those of you who are considering a purchase... the Sai markers do have a larger brush. Both, though, are capable of incredibly fine lines, and they seem to play well together too.

To add finer details to the orchids, I used a brown Micron pen and dotted towards the center of each flower. I used Impression Obsession dies to accent the focal panel, and a sentiment from my Warm Fuzzies clear set. The final risky step was to remove the sticker - I wasn't sure how 'stuck' it was, so I was hesitant to pull it away, but it came up with no tearing, and I love the effect.

For those who are waiting for more items to be posted to my sale page... it's going much slower than I thought! I'm going to completely revamp my unmounted stamp storage, so I'm stuck right there for the moment, waiting for supplies. Instead of posting too many more individual items, I'm going to start filling up Priority boxes for a flat rate, so be looking for those if you're interested. They will be packed FULL and I promise you will not be disappointed in the contents! Stamps, dies, embossing folders, cardstock, DP, vellum, ribbon, embellishments, and more.

I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for stopping by!

  3. This is gorgeous Dina, love the beautiful water coloring you did on this image.
I've never heard of this stickers, from what you described on your post today, I gather that they are just the outline of the image? and you can color on the inside? Am I right?
In any case, your card is beautiful, thank you for sharing.

  6. As usual, Dina, your coloring talents are outstanding. I am also looking forward to your review of the new Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I was intrigued by your use of the Peel-Off Stickers. I have never seen anyone remove the sticker after they have finished coloring in the inside areas. May I ask what color your outlines were, and if that affected your decision to remove it? Thanks for sharing your talents.
