Splitcoast Tutorial: Star Gift Box variation

This week's tutorial over on Splitcoast is a star-shaped gift box, made using die cut shapes. The tutorial included a variation for making a similar gift box using different shaped dies.

Here's the sample I made, using Quickutz octagon dies... my daughter has a birthday coming up and this is the perfect size for one of her gifts!

To begin, I cut three 4" octagons. 2 of them are layered together to form the back, and the front panel is layered with smaller octagons. The teacup image is one I had colored up this summer but didn't use at the time. It worked perfectly for my focal panel.

The inside piece for this particular box is cut to 3" x 7 1/2". I scored at 1/2" from each long side, and then every 1 1/2" along the length of the piece, just slightly shorter than the sides of the octagon.

If you've got a small gift to give, I hope you'll try this simple project!
Thanks for stopping by!

I absolutely adore the water color paper you used, it looks so textured, almost rustic, can you please tell me what brand is it? I love the way the image comes to life water colored in it.
Thank you for sharing this easy to follow tutorial.

  5. Love this little box with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. a special gift.

  6. Oh, Dina, this is so beautiful! Your painting is so beautiful, the colors and background paper are just stunning! Do you work with Lifestyles? I'm going to plug them here. Ten years ago I purchased a Revolution. It died after 9 years of heavy use with small dies. I found two more on e-bay and purchaged them. I found a lady that sells the cutting mats on e-bay as well. I decided to give the Evolution a try and purchased it. Those are now my two main cutting machines. Now I'm stocking up on Lifestyles dies (basic shapes), just love them. You've enabled me to purchase this set, just love them! Hugs!!!

  7. Gorgeous box!
So here's yet another die-set I have to have
Thanks for the inspiration Dina :)
