Splitcoast Tutorial - Winter Watercolor Scene
This week's tutorial over on Splitcoast is brought to us by Heather Telford - Heather does beautiful watercolor scenes, and she's sharing some of her tips for making scenes with falling snow.
My scene is kind of a happy accident... I cut my masks from stencil film, then stamped this Impression Obsession image in Versamagic chalk ink...
Winter Scene 1 |
I remembered Heather saying in the video that she misted the stamp and the paper, so I did the same... aaaaand lost most of the detail of the image. But... with the brown ink, it looks a bit like a vintage photo, and I liked the way the ink feathered in the misted water.
Here are links to the the other products I used:
Christmas Comes Anew, Pine Pair, Twig Wreath Die Set
I'll have another scene to share on Friday.

All I can say is I wish I had 'accidents' like yours! I will check out the tutorial later, but your water-colouring is second to none! My 'inner romantic' did a bit of a flip when I saw your card, all together now - aaahhhhh :)
ReplyDeleteThis is simply stunning. I cannot stop looking at it. It makes me very nostalgic and all warm and fuzzy in a good way. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDina this is beautiful, thank you for sharing.

Simply beautiful! A delightful accident. Inspiring to say the least. Thank you and have a very happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed the look of a blustery day in my home state of South Dakota where snow never falls straight down. The wind blows it into a frenzy, making everything look fuzzy. So... your artwork makes me long for home. Which is a nice thing to do on this cold Thanksgiving day!
ReplyDeleteDina, this is gorgeous!!! Love the sepia tones and a great way to use that stamp! Happy Thanksgiving
ReplyDeleteLovely Dina....reminds me of fog rolling in! Great happy accident!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!

Dina, the faint image is wonderful; the accident totally worked in your favor. You achieved snowy and vintage in one spritz! Your post has reminded me to pull out my chalk inks and play.
ReplyDeleteDina -- on Thanksgiving Day we can all give thanks to you and your unerring talent. Every time your email arrives I know I will be in awe and my Muse will be fed. Keep the Light shining, dear One. You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Dina! I love your stamped cabin and it's vintage feel. After things dry a bit, Heather reinks the stamp and stamps over the image again without water. I love how this gives all of that blurry depth in the background behind the image. I love that you girls experiment.
ReplyDeletethis is awesome. a truly vintage image.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful I just love it, and as one reader put it could not step away from the picture.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing! True with blowing snow! I admire your art.
ReplyDeletehugs,
