Hope Shines

Had to share this card I made for our first day of Hope You Can Cling To challenges... this set from Unity Stamp Co. spoke to my heart the moment I saw it...

The sentiment was what grabbed me more than anything - after we moved back to the States I endured  several months of mild to moderate depression... because of my faith and God's faithfulness through that time I maintained a strong hope, which was my light on those dark days. Hope is a strong theme during this month... sometimes we even describe hope as a 'flicker', 'glimmer', a 'ray' or a 'beacon' - that's light against darkness.

I colored the image using  Touch Twin Markers- coloring to capture the glow of light is a little tricky, but Sandy Allnock has a great video on how it's done. I used Sakura glaze and glitter pens on the fireflies and scribbled around their glow circles with a Prismacolor pencil to add movement and a little more glow.

Inside the card I used a sentiment from a set from My Favorite Things - they're one of our sponsors this month for our Hope You Can Cling To participants. (Have you SEEN the prize list?!!)

These are the Touch Twin Markers that I used:

I have some fun things to share with you over the next couple of weeks - Wednesday it's my turn to share a tutorial at Splitcoast, and I've been having fun working on that for you! I also have a blog birthday coming up with prizes to share! Stay tuned! Hope you have a wonderful week.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I just love this card, it's gorgeous. Also I kind of know how you feel about having hope and being down/depressed, I have a 25-6 year old son with Aspergers Syndrome AND OCD, and that is just the tip of the 'iceberg' Thanks for sharing your gorgeous card!!!

Your work is inspirational and so are you. But all the compliments in the world do nothing to help depression. How you managed to keep going during this period (including an overseas move) is a testament to your strength and courage. You amaze me. Sending positive thoughts and vibes your way, and pray for your continued recovery. Depression is a tough enemy, but I think you're even tougher.

  4. Absolutely beautiful. The glow really makes the card stand out. Everything you touch turns to gold. I'm sorry you went through depression and hope it's better now. I have depression really bad and it's not fun.
