Artists gotta art.

I brought some sketching supplies with me for this open-ended trip, but nothing with color. I broke down Saturday and bought a set of Crayola pencils, just to have something to play with. I know, right? Here's me spread out on the floor...

I had brought a mixed media pad with me, and had a little fun journaling - I have to say that I much prefer this scribbly, scrawly form of sketching and journaling over layers of wet media. Quick, sketchy, fun, experimental, and casual. Some quick stream-of-consciousness journaling to get some thoughts out of my head, then some play with color, shading, and grounding. Fast and free.

I read a watercoloring magazine the other day at the clinic, and one artist's repeated advice was "draw and paint." Not everything has to end up in a store or gallery, and it's ok just to play. So here's a little of that - experimenting with these Crayola pencils on Canson mixed media paper.

I did bring a waterbrush and a water-soluble graphite pencil (Graphitone)...

I LOVE this medium and look forward to playing with it more. I bought the set of 4, and the one I have with me is the 4B. I love to sketch, and love to watercolor - the graphite blends so easily, and allows you to sketch, and also blend out your mistakes into some shading. Here's a quick sketch of Russ' shoes...

 ...and one more page.

Hope you have a great week! I have a few fun things to share, in between appointments...!
Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I find that your sketches are just as involved as your cards that you produce. God has given you a mind and hand for creating beautiful pieces of art that are layered even in just drawing for fun. (absolutely astounding to me) :)
