Using negative space...
Janelle's Mix-Ability challenge this week is to show off some mixed-media coloring through the opening(s) or negative space of a die cut. I've had some fun in the last few weeks with a little twist on this technique, so I want to share those cards together!
This is the Impression Obsession die I used:
Floral Lace Heart |
The technique is really simple - I cut the die from Neenah cardstock, embossed the panel, layered a colored panel behind the opening, then replaced the heart in the negative space. The panel in the card below was scribbled with Derwent watercolor pencils for a fun ombre gradient, then blended with a waterbrush.
For the second card, I did the diecutting and embossing in the same way. For the layered panel, I used the diecut as a guide, laying it underneath a piece of acetate (sometimes called clear cardstock) and then coloring with Touch Twin Markers over each opening. It's a fun way to get a stained glass effect.
These are the markers I used:
For a super simple and quick card, I used a more open die, and layered the cut panel over some designer paper from Graphic 45.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards.
ReplyDeleteAmazing cards, Dina. I have dies like this but I've never tried this technique. I think the one with the clear acetate sheet will look really like a stain glass widow. Thank you for sharing this wonderful techniques.

ReplyDeleteDina, These are beautiful cards. I especially love the second/rainbow card, but I don't quite understand how you colored the petals. Could you please give us a little more instruction? thanks!

ReplyDeleteHow in the world were you able to color thru the die cut without getting color on it? I am so so humbled!!!!!
