Acrylic Resist - Peacock

I've been playing a lot with techniques this last week, especially resist techniques... I love that art affords us time to just play - and when we stumble upon a theory, there are so many different directions that theory can be applied! Acrylic paint can act like watercolor paint when it's wet, but resists watercolor when it's dry - I remembered seeing a tutorial on Splitcoast for an Acrylic Resist technique, so I referred to that as I was working.

Cover-a-Card Reverse Peacock

 This is the stamp I worked with, so you can see the detail - this is one of my Cover-a-Card stamp designs at Impression Obsession. This stamp has a companion stamp HERE, and both were intended for technique stamping.  I stamped it onto two white 2" Twinchie Art Squares from Inchie Arts using gold  Lumiere Acrylic Paints then let the paint dry completely... for even coverage and because the image is so detailed, I put some of the paint onto a silicone baking sheet, and brayered it around into an even layer, then brayered the paint directly onto my stamp. Generally my brayer and I are not on friendly terms, but this worked for me. :)

 My handheld camera was away on a weekend trip, so I didn't get to take pictures of my process - I'm really sorry about that! Gives me an excuse to try this again, and put together a video or photo tutorial. Here's an angled closeup of one of the Twinchies so you can see the gold paint. Usually when I do borderless coloring I use a light dye ink, and it gets lost in the process of coloring. The gold isn't really obvious when you look at the piece straight on, but it is so bright when the light hits it.  (I added gold paint around the edges after everything was dry.)

 Once my paint was dry, I pulled out my Shinhan Premium Watercolors and started painting - I used Greenish Yellow, Cobalt Green, Marine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Vandyke Brown, Chinese White, and Ivory Black, and referred to a photo as I was working (sort of!).

The panel at the top was actually another experimental piece - I stamped the image in paint, then sprayed the whole panel with gold Glimmer Mist. Here's a straight shot, and then an angled shot so you can see the shimmer. It's ver-r-r-r-y sparkly!
