Impression Obsession DT Challenge: Blue

The Impression Obsession team's challenge today is to create a project using the color blue. I have to laugh, because my blue pencils are the longest ones in my collection... I just don't use true blues all that much. Last year we had a color challenge where we had to use our high school colors, and mine were royal blue and white... wow, that was hard for me! I went with a more turquoise blue on both these cards.

I pulled out a stamp I haven't used much, but this Victorian House looked like it wanted to be blue... I used Prismacolor pencils to color it, and watercolored in the background with chalk inks. Should have left off the trees... but I couldn't stand to leave it looking like it was in a bare field. Oh well! The background panel is stamped with Cover-a-Card Screen and Reverse Damask.

I added Burnt Sienna and Sage Flower Soft to the potted plants.

These are the pencils I used to color the image:I wanted to do a CAS card too... I find it so hard to just leave something simple, so this has a little twist to it. Since I still had my Damask stamp out, I used a technique called "Kissing", inking up the Damask stamp, misting, then using its inked surface to ink a solid stamp (Large Solid Circle). The bird images are from a clear set called Life is Tweet, and the birds are colored with Neopiko markers. (BTW, if you do try this, the misting is optional... I do it when I want a softer watercolored look.)

  5. You rock Dina! I always love your coloring. I'm likin' those trees and clouds in the background of the Victorian house. The soft little circle of blue around the birdies is so sweet!

  9. I thought the trees really added to it. It would have looked sad without them! I like the whole card, and the key is a wonderful touch.

  10. WOW... both of your cards just knock it out of the park. Every time you use one of the Cover-A-Card backgrounds, I swear it's decorative paper. Do you stamp and then sponge ink over top to get that mottled look? It's just stunning!
