Tea for you and me!

Susan, owner of smARTworks, provided our sketch challenge for this week's smARTworks Tea Party. The only stipulations were to include a cut-out image (which didn't have to be a circle). Fun! Somehow, in the midst of all that's been going on, I came up with 2 cards for this party. Don't ask me how...maybe suffice it to say that stamping is my 'coping device.' Heh heh...

Scarecrow was the first stamp I picked up after we got home from Singapore. Is it just me, or is this card a little bit "more is whoa"? I did actually have these patterned papers sitting out to use together from before our whole medical ordeal, but somehow they came together a little differently than I expected. Anyway....it is what it is. :) The scarecrow is watercolored, and the bird is paper-pieced with some pencil highlighting. Sewing, buttons...this card has a lot going on. Still not sure about it....but there it is anyway...a monument to my mental state...?

Card #2 is a little more tamed, and I love it.......but I must admit it's a pretty loose interpretation of the original sketch. Still...all the elements are there, if you stretch the rectangle portion into an oval. Right? I had the oval cut from another project, and punched around the edges with a corner punch before layering. (Becca Feeken has some great tutorials on this if you're interested!) The butterfly is watercolored with reinkers and pearlescent watercolors, then popped and contoured a little bit. All layer edges are sponged.

Stamp sets used:
Card 1:
Scarecrow
Birdie Bitties
Being There
Card 2:
End/Begin
Purpose
Hummer

  1. wow, they are both amazing. Your watercolored scarecrow it just awesome. I am totally amazed at your butterfly card. Love the sentiment panel and how you stamped the sillouettes on one side and the sentiment on the other! Definately inspired by that piece! thanks.

  2. Oh my . . . the butterfly is absolutely beautiful. I tend to stay away from working in browns because I like bright colors. My hubby always wears browns and suggests those colors, and in this situation, it is so very elegant. Thanks for the beautiful inspiration :) Elizabeth S. in mid-Michigan

  4. Very nice on each count, but the butterfly card is stunning! I never heard of stretching a rectangle into an oval, but it certainly worked in this case. Love your color choices.
