Tea Party #2

On behalf of the smARTworks Design Team, welcome to our tea party! Every two weeks, a team member presents a challenge to the team, and to you, our loyal fans. :) Our hostess this week is Giovana, who blogs at A Place to Praise and Craft. Giovana is our guest designer for this quarter, and it's a pleasure to have her with us for a while! You can see her work on Splitcoast Stampers, too - her username is giogio.

For this Tea Party, Giovana gave us an inspiration piece to work with. It's a piece of artwork available from Target.....I seriously wish I had it hanging on my wall - it just makes me happy. Love the oranges, and the splashiness of it. When I first saw this I immediately thought of my Daisy Trio set.... So here is my card....

Like the last card I posted, I tried a different technique with the Trios, a faux watercolor technique. Again I skipped the first step stamp, and stamped the second step stamp in Adirondack Butterscotch, and the 3rd step stamp in Impress Vermilion - that's an awesome reddish orange...love it! Whatever ink you use, be sure that it is waterbased dye ink and blendable. After stamping the vermilion layer, I blended the colors together slightly with a waterbrush. The rest of the background was 'washed' with a wet brush and then dabbed with shimmery watercolors, mostly golds and coppers. While it was still wet, I pulled out my brown blow pen, and lightly blew some brown spatters around the flower. The stems and leaves are stamped in chalk ink (Versamagic Green Tea?) and blended lightly.

The angled flower was fun to do...I cut between a couple petals and overlapped them, then folded and bent the flower back. It works, don't you think? DH didn't "get it"......but I think it's kinda cool. Grid background was done on my Scor-Pal, and I pulled out a few paper scraps and ribbon to fill in the background.

Be sure to check out the other team members' creations as they post throughout the day...

  2. Wow, Dina! You replicated the artworks so well. Love that you chose the same vibrant colors, and created the same general impression as the original. Also love the diagonally scored background.

  4. Another gorgeous creation from you - shocker! ;) Very cool idea to fold the flower back like that. Love the pierced edge on the circle, too (the little things really do set your work apart)
