Mr. turtle goes to the beach...

I've posted this card a couple of other places, but haven't yet shared it here. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, though it took 2 tries to get it the way I wanted...the first attempt ended up in a window card, to cover up the booboo...I tried to use masking fluid to cover up the turtle, and with all the ink direct-to-paper, the cardstock was too wet when I tried to rub the fluid off, and the top layer of the cardstock started to rip off. I tried to even it out with sandpaper in another area and it just made it worse...so...window card for Mr. Turtle. Still cool, no? And I learned my lesson...heat set. Next time.

On my second attempt, I decided to use a post-it note mask instead. Safe, tried and true. Much better.

I should have taken pictures the second time around for a tutorial post, but I didn't...sorry about that. If anyone is interested, let me know...maybe I can pull it together for Round 3.

I stamped the turtle first (smARTworks, From the Pond) in Adirondack Pesto ink, and masked him. I made another mask with a torn piece of paper for the water's edge, then sponged Adirondack Stream ink to the corner. To make the lines in the water, I drew them with a clear glaze pen, then smeared across them with my finger. I removed the water's edge mask and stippled along the edge to soften it a little. The sand is Fabrico Sand ink, inkpad to paper, leaving a little white between the ocean and the sand. I stamped the grass (smARTworks, Farewell) around the edge. I then removed the masks and colored in the turtle with Prismacolor pencils, blending with OMS. On the card base, I stamped the Flourish (smARTworks, Stella) in Stream ink. I love that color...seriously, the water out at the main snorkeling areas here is that color blue.

(You can click on the set names to see more cards made using these sets, along with the pages where they appear in the smARTworks online catalog.)

Enjoying laying low for one more day before we start school...I'm so thankful to be getting into a routine again...after furlough and traveling I think we have been without a routine since the end of April!

Check out my little baby garden on our family blog!
