more details on the amaryllis card. :)

I got a few emails with questions about the Heart and Soul amaryllis card from yesterday, so here's some more info. Sorry about the quick post yesterday! Still waiting to hear from a couple of you with addresses............

Please tell me how you colored this card!
I used Derwent watercolor pencils and a waterbrush. The pencils can be used directly on the paper, or you can pick up color with the brush from the pencil. I usually use a combination of both these techniques. The white highlights are added with a gel pen. For the background, for a soft look - use lots of water to move your color around. For a more intense color, use less water.

The card also has maybe 2 layers of Pearl Glimmer Mist on it - that might account for the smooth appearance in the picture. It's super shimmery in person!

What ink did you use?
I usually use Stazon Jet Black for watercoloring. I also recently bought a Versafine Onyx Black inkpad, which gives a very dark, clear, detailed image, and is waterproof on paper.

Did you use a Fabriano card?
Yes! SmARTworks carries the Fabriano cards in 2 sizes, and they are wonderful to watercolor on.

Can you just clarify if the butterfly is part of the card??
No, that's a digital watermark.

BTW, if you love the amaryllis image, there is also a day lily in the same size and style. Mine is still waiting to be inked...........

  2. Thank you for sharing the details, Dina. I learn so much from you. What kind of white gel pen do you use? I've tried about every brand and they all dry up after a few months. My colored gel pens don't do that.
