the rest of the paisley

I can't believe the post office here...they charged me 20.000 Rp to send my birthday cards overseas because they were over 20 grams... that's over $2 a piece! Guess I'll have to pull out the scale and use a few less layers...so much for trying to use up scraps! Gah!

I just love all the colors in this paisley paper...picked out the purple and green to highlight. Fun crazy combo. This is a Penny Black image...I think my dear friend Deonne sent it to me forever ago - so cute. Love the hedgies - little rosey cheeks and chubby bellies. :) "happy" is a partial TAC stamp.

Prismacolors and mineral spirits to color...doodling around the paisley panel - kind of mimics the smoke lines from the candles.

Weird day ... raining again, though - that's welcome. :) DH went to a funeral - that Grandma from the other day really did die this time. Feel bad but we've all still been laughing about it and everyone that mentioned it had to qualify that she is actually "really really dead." Concept of death is very different here...as Americans we tend to hush and hide death, really. Here with poor education, the pull of tradition, and poor medical care, death is a daily reality, and it's not hidden away. When we visited a mountain village once, they pulled out a photo album to show me - it was from their mother's funeral, and there were pictures of the body, each family member standing by the body, etc. (not a funeral home made-to-look-like-she-was-just-sleeping body either...) Very unsettling! Anyway, hope you don't mind me sharing cultural stuff - it's not stamping, but it's part of life over here where I'm stamping. :)

  2. Toooooo cute! Love all those layers. What a shame they were so heavy. I had a similar problem last Easter when I made cards for family and friends, in the US. The bump in the ribbon went from 95 cent to 1.87. With ten cards going out, that was a horrendous expense.
