chickadee blessings

Here's one more Fabriano Medioevalis card - this was my first one, and yes, I'm hooked.

Not sure why I've been doing so many Christmas and winter cards...I guess my seasons are all out of whack...or maybe I'm just tooooo looking forward to our trip to the States in December...I even bought some Christmas presents online today! (No, though, I had an overstock.com gift card, which I got free through mypoints.com, then I got 4% back + an extra $5 from ebates.com! I scored! They're paying me to shop now! Niiiiiiice.)

ANYwho...the chickadee is from smARTworks - I love bird images and this one is just so sweet. I started with the blue background - the blue is Adirondack Denim ink by Ranger, picked up with a waterbrush from the lid of my inkpad. I didn't expect it but I love how the ink separated and gave those purplish pinky hues where there was more water. The bird was colored with Derwent watercolor pencils and blended with a waterbrush.

I wanted a glittery crunchy feel to the snow. I started with just glitter applied to glue from a Sakura Quickie Glue pen, but it wasn't quite right, so I took my embossing stylus and applied white acrylic paint where I wanted the snow. While the paint was still wet, I applied glitter again. Bam. Yes. Exactly the look I wanted.

"Blessings" is a partial stamp...the full saying, which comes with the chickadee stamp, says "Wishing you all the blessings of the season." When I got the stamp I immediately cut it in half, so I could use "Wishing you blessings" year-round. To stamp just the "blessings" part, I covered up the other words with masking tape, inked the stamp, then removed the tape (be sure you do that!) before stamping, positioning the word with my Stamp-a-ma-jig.

  5. Beautiful! The black-capped chickadee is actually the State Bird for Maine, so looking at this card is like looking out my window during the winter.

  9. Hello, I popped over here from the Splitcoasters site. I was hoping there would be a photo of what happens to the Adironack Demin re-inker when you used it as a watercolor.
    Very nice Chickadee!
