Cookies and Tea #3

Our 4th smARTworks design team "Tea Party" sketch is courtesy of Susan Trask, owner of smARTworks. The challenge on this layout was to have the text be focal. Most of my 'regular card size' text stamps are horizontal, but I do have this one from the "Spots" set...it's just bigger than I wanted it to be for the layout. So - I made a long card. The dimensions are 4"x8", standard business envelope size.

For some reason I can't stand to just stamp this ladybug (oh hey, BTW the set comes with 2 ladybugs, 2 different sizes, both shown here). I stamped the bugs first onto the brown paper, and colored them in completely black. I stamped them again on the red paper, cut out their backs, cut their wings in half, mounted them on mounting foam, and separated their wings when I attached them to the card. I love the dimension of that, and they look like they just landed. I dotted in a little crawly trail for each one and added a few little highlights with a white gel pen.

With the scraps I had leftover I put together an ATC with the same layout, just turned, and with one ladybug instead of 3. The saying is from another smARTworks ladybug set called "Ladybug Hello" (it comes with more realistic ladybugs in 3 sizes, the saying, and a leaf).

  1. Love them! Those ladybugs look like they could fly right off the paper.

  2. Your little ladies are adorable! Such great details (I *never* would have thought to add the white highlight, but it looks fabulous)

  4. This was a surprise! I also thought about doing the sketch using the ladybugs, but now I'm glad I didn't... I LOVE the effect on the tall card!
